[thelist] Moving from PostNuke, versatile php forum?

Dear Evolters,

I have been an advocate of PostNuke since the beginning and have written
quite a few modules for them too. However I recently came to the
decision that I was going to re-write my own core for our large website
Planet-Tolkien.com as to be more versatile and to have more control over
it's development. All is going well in the conversion however I am about
to cross a bridge, that being the forum.

On our existing PostNuke website we use XForum as our message board, as
far as I can see Trollix do not provide a standalone version so this
means I am going to have to find a different one (phbb?) and port the
SQL file into it :o(

Possible, however I need a forum of which I can easily hack it's session
identifiers for my own core permissions/sessions. I do not want my
members to have to login into the website to access it's features and
then again for the message board. I would also like the message board to
use the same member table as the website. The obvious answer to this is
to write my own message board :o) But if anyone knows of a forum code
versatile enough to enable this then I would be grateful for the
information.

Thank you in advance.

Taz
