Right, well that's the rub, innit? :) I assume you've worked on not
allowing the top/bottom parts of the box to scale below the 550px?

Other than that I'm outta suggestions and don't have the time to try
any solutions right now. But you've pretty much tackled one of the
more difficult tasks in CSS, its going to take some work to make it
go. I'd say definitely head over to css-d, you'll get some good
advice there for sure.
