The difference isn't that great, it's just a distinction drawn by those
who want to use the term "hacker" for themselves, but don't want to be
considered evil or malicious.  I agree it's a long-term media distortion.  
Also, it was the article that referred to them as "hackers," not Chris.

I'd say many hackers could be crackers, and vice versa -- it just depends 
where you want to put your energy, for the light or the dark if you will.  
And many cross over at some point (usually to the light, for money).

Cracker is an especially stupid word... how about 'reverser' :)
