i think the answer to that depends on the audience and how frequently you
expect a user to use the contact form.  if it's a fairly non-tech-savvy
audience and they're going to use it a single time, then an auto-response
that's tailored to them is a nice touch.  however, if the audience is
tech-savvy or you think customers are going to use the form more than once,
then an auto-response can make the form that much more impersonal,
especially if frustration is the motivation to use the form.  then the
auto-response just adds insult to injury ("look, i got a response already.
damn, it's the #@&% auto-response like last time").
