Tested and works:
Click in the first frame.
Double click on the text.
Hit apple-b, apple-b, apple-g (PC users ctl-b, ctl-b, ctl-g)

You're done.

What you've done is converted the text to outlines and grouped it.
Flash doesn't seem to tween text paths.
An alternative would be to use an overlay the same colour as the 
background and vary the opacity of that - it will look  the same as 
fading the text.

Another tip - to test a movie hit apple-return - this generates a 
real .swf and tests it in a real .swf player.
