I've used it on an Intranet and this site: http://www.torbytes.co.uk/

where I tweaked the pages to allow htdig to show thumbnails in results (a 
trick that requires you to have full control over the site you are 
searching and be prepared to sacrifice the page title)

I've set it up on *nix and Windows.

The only downside for me is the lack of phase searching, but that's now in 
beta so may soon be sorted.
