long cranky rant about WarFTP and an impassioned plea for help (was RE: [thelist] WarFTP perms)

It does, and always has.

It does, and always has.

In War, the user I'm connecting with has all possible permissions for
the entire directory tree. User with the same name has full NTFS rights
to the entire directory tree. Unless I go to anonymous access, it's not
possible to grant more permissions than the user I'm testing with
already has.

I've been fighting this thing for going on nine months. I'm starting to
feel stupid. How hard can it be to set up an FTP server?

It can't be this hard. This is my second installation of WarFTP, and
first time, I had it installed and functioning within 20 minutes. I've
done nothing different here, using a nearly identical hardware and
software setup, yet this time, after nine months, I'm no closer than the
day I downloaded it.

WarFTP claims to be nearly ubiquitous, but my pleas for help don't seem
to get much response. Does anyone besides Anthony really use WarFTP?
What else is out there?

How about this: is anyone interested in configuring my FTP server for
me? I used to think I was a network administrator, with *some* clue how
to manage a simple little Windows network. Maybe I was wrong.

So, what would you charge me to make my f*()#$ing FTP server work? All I
want is to allow each of the four people I'm hosting for FTP access to
their own site, and nothing else. And I want full access to the web
directories via FTP.

Yeah, I'm frustrated and cranky. Sorry.
