[thelist] Good disk recovery utility anybody?

My LaCie 200 d2 firewire external drive back-up has just done a Beagle
on me and appears to have lost its partition map; whatever the case, Win
XP Pro tells me that it is unformatted.
This is a sod as the disk is of course 13 months old. 
I have lazily not kept up with the latest disk recovery utilities
(chkdsk is my limit) so can anyone point me in the right direction? I
really should have a decent program on hand, reasonable cost is
expected...
