[thelist] PHP file content?

I am taking an application written in Perl and converting it to PHP.  I am having a problem reading my data files.  The data files are written with a NULL field separator (\0).  The PHP file functions stop reading a line as soon as they reach the first NULL character.  Anyone have any ideas?
