[thelist] Problems with configuring PHP and MySQL

Hi List,

I have the following problem. Yesterday I started to install my own Linux/Apache server at home. My
brother gave me last week his old pc and asked if I could use it for something. It is a Pentium 1,
100 Mhz, with 64 MB Ram and a hard drive of 10 GB. Since it is already an old box, I decided not to
overdo it and install Linux 7.1 (Redhat) on it. Further I installed apache 1.3.19, php 4.0.3 pl 1
and mysql 3.2.32. Everything worked fine, I got apache up nice and running, installed php and mysql
and everything seemed to work fine. But.... when I first loaded a php page into my browser,
everything went wrong. I got the following error message: "Fatal error: Call to undefined function:
mysql_connect() in /home/http/index.php on line 3". Does anybody have any idea what is causing this?
It is clear that php doesn't recognize the mysql functions. But since all modules are working fine
except for this, I think php has problems accessing the mysql library. PHP was also compiled with
mysql. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any tip.

Greetings,

Eveline
