Everybody should do that, it's how I'm not fooled by virus attachments
like that document.doc.exe ! In fact hiding extensions shouldn't even be
an option in an OS. I find it of no use except confusing novices and
ressembling MAC OS.

You may also go to Start--Control Panels--Folder Options and uncheck 
"Hide extensions for known file types."
