It's not semantically "correct" to use tables for layout (which is what 
you usually do with sliced up images). However, I work with people who 
know very little about the web, but a lot more about photoshop and 
dreamweaver, so what they end up doing is making a big image map with a 
big image. Well, if that big image doesn't load or loads incompletely 
(which has happened to me), your image map is pretty useless!

So what I've suggested to these folks is that it may be better to slice 
the image up (and also make use of use the alt attribute on their area 
tags!) so that it's not such an all-or-nothing situation.
