As opposed to having an unchecked box labeled, "Don't send me
marketing mail"? Isn't the hope still that they don't see the box and
don't check it? Personallly, a checked box is a lot more visible to
me than an unchecked one (and I'm MORE likely to verify that I want it
checked if I see it pre-checked).

Selection does not mean you for a "Yes" option on users. That's silly
thinking. Offering a woman $10,000,000 does not mean you forced on
her the option to be rich. (She can turn it down, after all)

This whole thread amazes me. It amazes me that somehow a checked box
suddenly makes it impossible to uncheck it. It also amazes me that
for some people the world is full of absolutes, without any
flexibility.
