[thelist] recovering data from a deleted partition

Depends on what filesystem that was on it. Recently, I created a new 
partition on an old hard disk (on what appeared to be empty space). 
Instead of typing mkfs as I should, i typeds in fsck and data appeared 
on it as if by magic!! I had unwittingly recreated an old partition and 
it's data turned out to be intact.
