[thelist] PHP5 static CGI

Hi... I wonder if someone can help... I haven't had too much luck...

I am trying to create a php 5 cgi, statically linked, because I have no 
real idea of what distribution the provider is running, and basically 
want something I can drop into a /cgi-bin/ directory, make some 
.htaccess, ini file changes, and go...

If anyone could give pointers on how to do this for Apache 1.3/php5 on 
linux, it would be /very/ gratefully appreciated.

I've googled several 'step-by-step' lists, but none really seems to meet 
my requirements.
