	I thought it was already in "software format" :)

	The major problem here is that -- unless you write your own
generator or resell a third-party component with your app -- you're
relying on the presence of Word and Excel (most likely a specific
version) on the user's machine.  Given that this could be a server,
that's even less likely.

	Maybe with more information on the process, we could at least
get you pointed in the right direction.

Ok. I've got a non-techie friend who has some neat stuff here and he's
looking for the best way to achieve this. 

This excel spread sheet is tied into a word doc and it creates reports
based upon values in the spread sheet. 

I told him if he wants to market this product effectively and securely,
he needs to put it into software format and generate reports that way
(internally). He could control the licensing much better.

Being the guy who's going to work on this project, how would you
approach this?
