[thelist] html mail dual content

Hello,

I would like to send some html email in both html format as well as
using a method that sends plain text format as a fall-back format in
case the recipient doesn't accept html mail. I am using the Mozilla
suite on the mac version 1.3.1 on OS9.

Is there a technique that can be used so that the plain text variant of
the email has different content than the html formatted email?

For example, in the html mail, I have a header graphic with some large
header text rendered as a gif. This looks great in html mail format. But
what will users see if they do not accept html mail - only the alt text
of that image? If they don't accept html mail, I would rather they see a
nice big h1 header instead. Therefore it would seem I need this element
to be an <img> in the html formatted mail, yet be an h1 in the plain
text version. Is this possible?

Can my email program do this? I have looked all around this program and
do not see a method of accomplishing this.

Is there a manual way to do this or do I have to buy a mailign program?
I would rather avoid buying another program if I don't need to - I don't
usually send much email, especially html email.

Actually I would prefer to not use html mail but my client would like to
use it for its direct immediate impact without having to click.

Thank you,

Mike
