Subject: [thelist] Multilingual Sites: Best approach?

This month sees me implementing my first project with
multiple languages. All content on the site in
question will be available in at least four languages,
though obviously with the ability to scale to further
languages if the demand exists.

Before I get started, I'm hoping I could gather an
opinion on the best approach to handling this site
wide language customisation - my initial thought was
to go with a cookie set with information about the
requested language within it, however I'm aware of the
concerns some people have with cookies and so is there
a better way to achieve this?

Your thoughts and opinions on the subject are
appreciated - I'm totally open to any workable,
accessible, compliant solution!

Regards
Dave Stevens
