Aside from who uses what, it is also simply good application design to produce javascript that degrades gracefully. The host application for a publicly available scripted application is not something that developers can control. Regardless of whether a developer believes that there is a statistically high number of users with a certain host application in a certain configuration, a good scripted application will gracefully handle any host environment.
