That seems the best solution to me.  Even screenreaders such as Jaws 
will render that as intended.  Browser behavior is made more 
predictable, and only Lynx users and the W3C Validator will "see" it.

After all this, I wonder if the OP (Bruce) didn't care about a reset 
button, but instead wanted to render the values of all the form fields 
empty upon submission of the form.  I've seen a few forms do this, 
particularly the login form on my bank's site, I guess in order to avoid 
someone hitting "Back" and seeing the saved form info on the page and 
being able to re-submit it?  Bruce, can you please clarify your question 
before these guys tear each other apart over the Reset button issue?!? :)
