:
: I have a question for the group.
:
: I am pretty well versed in PHP and
: MySQL. I am looking into a job that will be maintaining and updating
: an extensive website which has a backend built with ASP.net with a MS
: SQL database. My questions are 1) is there a big difference between
: PHP and ASP.net? I know that PHP and ASP are similar. Also, is there
: much difference between MySQL and MS SQL?

My personal opinion? Yes, there is a substantial difference between mySQL and
SQL Server. If you want to get the most out of SQL Server, and not do a
disservice to your end-client, invest in a couple of books on the product (or
some training). It's a pretty complex product, and there's a lot to get your
head around (this applies equally to SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005).
For example, determining your high availability requirements and building
your infrastructure and application to handle that is not something I would
do as I went along. You need to know what you are doing upfront before you
deploy anything or write any code.

Cheers
Ken
