[thelist] CSS layout question / flash as background image?

As mentioned before, I'm implementing a designer's mockup that uses a
table-based layout, but I'm trying to implement it mostly tableless.

It's mostly working, but somethings don't work quite right.

I'm using a two floated column layout so the page resizes well.

I'm using a background image for the banner logo, which works nicely
because for small widths the banner menu in the upper right can go
over the background logo image (you may need to bump up your font
sizes to see it happen).

But on the home page there's a flash logo:

    http://infopeople.org:4488/home.html

And in that case if you have a small browser window (and maybe bump
up the fonts) the "Home" in the upper right banner menu will get
covered by the flash image.

Any ideas how to avoid that?

The original design was based on tables and fixed pixel sizes:

and it's a task to make everything work mostly like the original
design yet using a more liquid layout. Those pop-up menus come to
mind.
