I had an app that we were working on where the client (public sector)
insisted on some fancy JavaScript functionality. Essentially, we were
using Ajax, back before it was called that, to make a call to and XML
file and display help messages in the browser status bar when a user
rolled over a field. There was no server-side method that could be
used in this case, which would work as a fallback.

I ran it by the WCAG working group, and they all basically said it
wasn't my problem. It was the responsibility of the employer to ensure
there was an accessible method in place. All I could do was suggest an
alternative. This was about three years ago, and now there are all
sorts of fancy Ajax methods for doing what we wanted in a much better,
accessible fashion.
