[thelist] problems with S5 slideshow

I'm using Eric Meyer's "better than Your Father's Oldsmobile" S5
slideshow

here:

I have a number of problems which are probably a) my own doing and b)
over my head, at least for now.

In order of importance:

1. In IE7 on WinXP the JavaScript jump menu under the navigation
controls (lower right) pops up when clicked, but as you move the mouse
to the menu items, it disappears and can't be used. If you're fast
enough to move and click, it still disappears and the click happens on
the slide, causing it to advance.

2. In Opera 8 and 9 (no earlier versions tested) I only get the unstyled
content. I know Opera has their own slide show thingy, but this is
supposed to work with it.

3. I have thumbnail images embedded which are links to larger images.
When clicked, the larger image opens in a new window as intended, but
the slide also advances. I know certain areas of the slideshow ignore
clicks; just not sure how to extend that behaviour (or lack thereof) to
those thumbnails.

4. All the browsers I've tested (last two versions of IE, FF, NN, Opera)
show a flash of unstyled content before the slideshow is styled.

I'm wide open for all suggestions (except converting to Flash ;)

Thanks

joel
