Ken, I have not looked at VCalendar, so have no feedback. Take a look
at webcalendar, available off sourceforge.net.

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=3870

I have it running on one client's site, www.longmontsba.org and my site,
www.dottedi.biz. It has both public and private views, requires
php/mysql. I found that the code is easy enough to follow that it's not
so difficult to do minor tweaking as needed. Also it is easy enough to
write queries to pull out events and add as list items on a page column.
