Couldn't you setup the Load balancer (for the AOl Subnets) to only flip to a new server, if the "main" server is non-responsive? Sort of like a poor man's fail over cluster. If the percentage of AOL users is marginal enough, routing them to one server is not going to impact your load balancing.
