True. The real point is, if this guy has a fax machine instead of a
computer, nobody is going to sell him a *nix solution. Yes, there are
leventy-leven simpler ways to solve this puzzle besides creating a fax
for the client, but all solutions which the client will reject are
unsuitable, right?

So, I'm still curious: even if the expected load on this is 500 orders a
week, are the existing options for email to fax really so expensive that
reinventing the wheel is necessary?
