[thelist] e-commerce on the down low

Looking for ideas or what other have done when a client wants to do
e-commerce but does not necessarily want it front and center.  Some of my
thoughts were like an invitation only event/area where the customer could
browse what was available.  Another idea was to setup a listing where
customers could sign up to be notified when a product was available and then
given a link to go browse the products.  Has anyone run into this before or
does anyone have any other ideas.
