Sounds like it to me. And yes, there's always a learning curve, but
isn't that the whole point?  :-)

Even if you wind up going back to PHP at some point, once you've
immersed yourself in another language, whether it's Ruby, Smalltalk,
Haskell, Lua -- you'll totally think about programming differently.

And using a platform like Rails will likely change your way of thinking
about other things like TDD, version control, the entire development
cycle.

I'd personally recommend Rails, but try *something* -- what have you
got to lose but ennui and limited horizons?  :-)
