[thelist] Using Flash on a website

I mainly care because this restaurant issue has happened to me.
But also clients who want flash make me cranky.

I'd say the real question is "who cares?" :-)

While Flash sites are so inflexible (in my experience), the number of
target device configurations is growing exponentially - smartphones,
tablets, netbooks, on up through mega desktop screens.

Moving to HTML5+CSS3 media-queries offers the best opportunity
for tailoring the experience appropriately to the device, I'd say.

Your restaurant example is perfect -- do I want the typical whizzy
slideshow of menu items or do I want my phone to let me know the
restaurant is only a couple of hundred meters away (using HTML5's
GeoLocation API), with a map to guide me?

OT: 'restaurant sites in Flash' seems to be an industry-endemic
triumph of glitz over usability... </rant>
