Completely unrelated to the discussion, I used to work for an EDI software
vendor named Trinary. I made a sign for the receptionist:

"? :"

She asked, "What does that mean?" I told her it was how we would describe her
job in the C programming language. "How's that?", she asked. I told her that
was "the trinary operator".

Probably should have kept that to myself...

BTW, Sometimes ternary is written as trinary...
