The best programming editor I've ever used: jEdit (<http://jedit.org/>)

Highly configurable, extensible via plugins, with macros, templates,
syntax highlighting, etc. plus it's cross-platform (Java), so you
don't have to learn a new editor when you switch to Linux or a Mac :-)
