Lachlan,
I just can't imagine it working as a fundraiser.
Would you pay US$5 to enter a page design competition? I wouldn't.
I'd volunteer services to build a site for charity though...
Maybe an option exists for evolt.org to work for charities. Charities could
get their sites paid for by sponsors. That money (or some of it) could come
to us.
We have good code behind us (our CMS) that would provide a good site and
pre-built community functions for many charities.
It'd also serve to raise the perception of web developers amongst a wider
market.
That's something I *would* do. If we pitched our services to a number of
charities every month, surely some would be interested? We'd be providing
US$xk worth of code and services to a charity for maybe $500-2000, which
would be paid for by commercial supporters of the charity.
There'd be no fighting over who got to code or design at our end, because no
individuals would get money - just credit. All the money would go to keeping
us and our services running.
Thoughts?
