Doesn't seem to be much interest in anything these days. I wouldn't
take it personally.

I think I responded that I much preferred the first approach, even if
it does use tabs. I don't like the header nearly as much in the
second example, since it's much less scannable. (I am currently
ignoring the rest of the page ... it would be unfair to compare the
two as wholes).

I say yes. The question is can we? Do we have enough interest/time
available to do so?

Also, if we are going to tackle this too, perhaps we should take a
good look at the IA that was started and get it finalized.
