John

Sorry this has taken a bit - I've been a bit busy.

I'm a lot more comfortable than I was a month ago. But I still have a few questions which we said would be answerable after we'd received offers. Some of these should be no-brainers, but it'd be useful to have them on record:

What have we been offered in:

1) Promised response times (elapsed time and hours of service)
2) Notifications of downtime

and does SysAdmin accept them?

Can you confirm that SysAdmin accepts that:
>I have rack and floor space available, with power conditioning and
>backup power for 6 - 8 hours, cooling, physical access to evolt.org
>sysadmin members whenever needed, swapping tapes for daily backup, techs
>for fixing broken machines (replacement parts would have come from
>elsewhere), all that evolt.org needs and more.
http://lists.evolt.org/sysadminarchive/2002-June/000119.html
>CSI's past record logs in at around 98 - 99% uptime and CSI will compenste >billing to evolt.org for downtime.
http://lists.evolt.org/sysadminarchive/2002-June/000128.html
is sufficient for evolt's needs for the forseeable future?
(I saw some people voting on it, but I didn't see a conclusion)

Who's handling the other DNS (secondary if primary is moving to Ron, primary otherwise)?

Is the high cost involved (subject to caveat below) a result of us wanting to co-lo and own our own physical hardware?

Is this:
> We do not live in an ideal world, and those that have the initiative to
> build something usually have to work "outside the book" until capable of
> working "by the book".
http://lists.evolt.org/sysadminarchive/2002-June/000128.html
the agreed position of SysAdmin?

If so, does SysAdmin have a view that working by the book would be A Good Thing?

If so, does SysAdmin have a view on what we're going to do to move us towards working by the book (the Reader's Digest condensed version would be OK imo, it doesn't have to be the unabridged version with all the commentary and footnotes)?

> He wants evolt.org to make a serious
> effort to reimburse his costs, but will not for
> the time being be issuing invoices.

That's a generous way of going forward - I like it. Ron, if you're reading, thankyou.

Cheers
Martin
