I've been reading nolo.com (thanks Madhu) and there's a bunch of
stuff to be completed:

1. Obtain nonprofit materials from your state's corporate filing
office. [I'll know Tuesday if I'm moving back to Maryland. That's
when I'll know if I want to create the non-profit in California or
Maryland.]
2. Choose an available business name that meets the requirements of
state law. [I'll double check to make sure we're okay on that score.]
3. File formal paperwork, usually called "articles of incorporation,"
and pay a small filing fee (typically $30 or $40).
4. Apply for your federal and state tax exemptions.
5. Create corporate "bylaws," which set out the operating rules for
your nonprofit corporation. [kinda done?]
6. Appoint the initial directors. (In some states you must choose
your initial directors before you file your articles, because you
must list their names in the document.) [done]
7. Hold the first meeting of the board of directors. [done]
8. Obtain licenses and permits that may be required for your corporation.

>I remember there
>was a charter being developed... is it still useful, at hand?

The bookmarked copy I had resided at
http://members.evolt.org/djc/evolt/corp/bylaws.html ...which now
points to five2one.org. Don't know if it's there (doubtful), as I've
been forbidden by Dan to see it...

I think Elfur may have had a copy (I've inquired).

>if ditching oracle means rebuilding large part of the site, does that

>options?

I think they're TBD.
