for one, i think we're currently sending a positive message to the community
that open source and "non" open source solutions can be made to live
together. for two, i have zero experience with the open source offerings
mentioned and would not be able to help in any capacity should we go that
route. that means that any knowledge i've gained through the lifecycle of
teo/weo as they currently stand would be lost. third, our needs have become
diverse enough that a prebuilt solution (open source or not) is not going to
fit our needs without heavy customization. unfortunately, heavy
customization of an existing product almost always results in hacks of
varying degrees of stability/scalability in the decline. finally, in my
experience, integration of lots of disparate pre-built applications results
in fragmentation of data. if we think we have a problem with integration
now, just wait until we start down the path suggested above.
