[Sysadmin] thelist Digest problem

Okay,

This is the email Carol sent through with a little more detail. I
didn't want to send all 54k of the digest post here, so I've whacked it up
on the web at http://polytechnic.co.uk/evolt/thelist_digest-v10-i29.txt.zip

I'm on Linux and Mac here, so no eudora. However, I've looked at the digest
post in BBEdit and I'm not seeing any strange characters.

It does look like a Eudora display bug though.

Aha!.... check this out: http://www.eudora.com/techsupport/kb/2468hq.html

Issue:
I recently installed Windows Eudora 6.0 and now some of my messages display
with the word "Snip" in my messages.

Solution:
The word "Snip" appearing in a message is the result of a new feature called
Content Concentrator.
...

I wonder if this Content Concentrator is barfing on the internal headers in
the digest.

I'll mail Carol and point her towards the KB article. See if that's the
problem.

Hi, Garrett --

Thanks for offering to check this out. It turns out the attempt to document
the problem provides a solution, or at least a workaround. That is, the
FORWARDED message (below) has ALL the posts in it. Yet, when I checked the
original again (using Eudora 6.0.0.22 in sponsored mode), the END piece with
"end of the digest" comes immediately after message 9!

So the bug must be some sort of display problem within Eudora... after a
certain string or a certain amount of text, apparently it just skips to the
end. From now on, I'll just pretend I want to forward the digest when I want
to read one of the invisible messages. If you have an explanation, I'd be
interested in hearing it.

This is what Eudora shows me of the original digest, just so we're clear:
---------------------- snip ------------
Message: 9

check your settings in your email client.....

if you're using MS Outlook/Express, it's quite possible/probable that your
email address is contained within the application....

hope it helps..

---------- end of digest message when simply reading message ----------
