I agree, the performance is rather poor. Even my sites fare only 
slightly worse than beo, and I don't promote them at all or provide much 
information (the ads are just there in case someone clicks them, doesn't 
cost me anything so it's effectively free money).

Precisely. That is the reason why search engines often make the most 
advertising revenues, because people go there to look for other sites 
rather than just pure information.

Even if weo only makes $5/day, that's $150/month which probably offsets 
a large percentage of the costs of running evolt. I think it would make 
sense to run them 24/7 rather than on specific days though, otherwise 
people will start to get confused and there's no point in complicating 
things more then necessary. If it turns a profit, then perhaps people 
who have donated significant resources to evolt in the past could be 
given a "thank you" present.
