Erika - Since I know you're looking for feedback before continuing with
your design work, I figured I'd throw my 2 cents in. I think the design
is not bad, but from an esthetic point of view I have a few qualms. I'm
not a fan of all the lines, borders, and blocks - they make the design
feel more cramped than it actually is. I think more padding around the
side navs would help, and maybe pull the author photo away from the edge
of the box (I just don't like how it's touching the side nav). I do like
background patterns, as solid colours are just too much, but I'm not
sure if I really like the diamondy pattern - minor detail. Most of all,
though, I really don't like that the design is dictated by the
far-too-limited and not-very-pretty colour scheme of the evolt blocks.
The blocks are great as a brand logo, but I think they could use some
tweaking/updating, and we're tying ourselves down to the blue, red, and
green scheme. Not just that, but we seem to be limiting ourselves to
three areas of the site when that isn't necessarily what we need - our
IA should not be dictated by the number of colours in our logo! And
aside from the splash of colour in the header (and sometimes one in the
right-hand column), there is no colour at all to lend visual interest to
the rest of the page.

All that being said, I think the design is already waaaayyy better than
what's on weo now. More attractive in general, better line length (even
at 100% width), visible separation between side nav and content, better
font sizing... Keep up the good work, Erika! Hope you don't mind my
feedback :)
