However, most of the time I do think it's helpful for visitors to have the visual cue of a different color for visited links. I think this is another of those things that falls into the "knowing your purpose and your audience" category. That, and, making an educated decision about what you are doing, and why. IMHO it is ok to deviate from the generally accepted norm *if* you fully understand the norm and your reasons for deviating from it, and whether or not your audience will get it.
