Speaking as a sometime lurker, relative newbie, and nontechnical-design-type, I have to say this: If people want more design-related threads, those people might consider posting more design-related stuff. Of course that's an oversimplification. But, starting and continuing design-related threads, combined with recruiting more designers to subscribe and contribute, should go a long way towards acheiving balance. The point is, thelist is what we make it. It's like a coctail party. Sitting alone in a corner, waiting for someone to come up with your very favorite conversational topic... well that rarely works. I have no complaints about the topics regularly discussed here. All the back-end stuff that I don't really understand... well that just helps me communicate better with developers and other back-end types. I think of it as brain velcro. Although I don't read every technical post, those that I do read create just a little bit more velcro in my brain, giving future technical information a place to stick instead of just floating in one ear and out the other. The thing I like best about evolt is the high quality of posts. I'd hate to risk losing that high quality for any reason. Affiliations are nice, and can be very helpful in achieving goals, but are they really necessary? I don't know. I guess I'd say, before going ahead with any affiliation, someone (all of us?) needs to identify what evolt's primary goals are and then evaluate whether this particular affiliation will move us toward the goal or away from it. my two cents plus wildly mixed metaphors.
