for the record, you can also use background images to fill the gap. it can be pesky to get it to line up correctly, especially with a complex layout, but it will fill in that space... (and if you're using bg images, go ahead and use the css background properties to control tiling...). I know most of us don't like background images, but if it's mandatory to cover that ns right gutter, it will do the trick. see it in action at http://www.dept3.com -nate nate@vicksburgcollective.com -----Original Message----- From: thelist-admin@lists.evolt.org [mailto:thelist-admin@lists.evolt.org]On Behalf Of jeff Sent: Tuesday, April 17, 2001 1:34 PM To: thelist@lists.evolt.org Subject: RE: [thelist] Not filling total width mat, :~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ : From: matt newell : : the original question was : : how do i keep netscape from making that ugly : side gutter. : : the answer is: : : add, rightmargin=0 to your body tag :~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ unfortunately you are incorrect. rightmargin is a non-standard ie specific attribute of the body tag and has absolutely zero effect in netscape. the gutter you're seeing is reserved by netscape for the scrollbar whether it's necessary or not. coincidentally, ie does the same thing except it display the scrollbar at all times. so -- the solution? make your content tall enough to always show the scrollbar, find a color that you can set the bgcolor of the body to that doesn't make that gap obvious, or simply ignore it. thanks, .jeff name://jeff.howden game://web.development http://www.evolt.org/ mailto:jeff@members.evolt.org --------------------------------------- For unsubscribe and other options, including the Tip Harvester and archive of TheList go to: http://lists.evolt.org Workers of the Web, evolt !
