hey marcia, i threw up a little page for you: http://vicksburgcollective.com/forfun/links_for_marcia .html As for freelancing, it seems to be all about connections and momentum. Try doing a project for a friend or family member, to get some practice and start building a portfolio. A personal site is great too, to show your portfolio, skills, style, etc. (It’s also nice because it can keep you busy, and give you a chance to try neat new things, without having to worry about client approval.) Some have good luck working for charities or nonprofits; they often can’t afford established design shops or high priced consultants. Once you do a good job for one client, word of mouth and recommendations should keep you busy. being involved in community, like this list, helps too. One piece of advice, if I may: Be sure to save at least 1/3, or even ½ of any money you collect. Since you will likely be an independent contractor (IRS Form 1099), no withholdings will be kept from your check, and come tax time, you’ll owe a hefty sum. cheers, nate ---- thelist@lists.evolt.org wrote: > Hi Marcia, > > I'm very new to this list also.
