CRRRRAP? We're wearin' kilts, boy! We had a piper! How kin ye call tha'
crrap? (Plus we had Han and Leia on a cake!)

That could alternatively read: "Occasionally I am stupid enough ... " You
can't believe how big a moose actually is until she's staring you down to
keep you away from her young uns. :)

One of my favorite things about living up here is the wildlife. One day last
summer, Katie and I took the dogs for a walk along the Coastal Trail, a
paved path that winds along the coast of the Knick Arm for several miles. We
live about a 10 minute walk from one of the trail heads. It was a clear,
bright day and Denali (Mt. McKinley) was visible on the horizon (although
"on the horizon" doesn't do justice to the view, especially when you think
about the fact that it's over 300 miles away and looks like it's across the
Arm.) On that one walk we saw two moose, two bald eagles playing/doing that
mating-dance-lock-feet-and-tumble-through-the-air thing, and a pod of beluga
whales. Ahhhh ...

I have many more pictures of moose because I turn into a three year old when
one shows up in our yard. I'll shoot a whole roll of one moose standing in
my front yard eating the crabapple tree and pooping.

The cool thing is that the house we're in now has a normal main floor; it's
not a split-level like the house in the pictures above. So the pictures are
much more eye-level. All the pictures of the mamma moose that you see at the
links above and below were actually shot through a six-foot chain link
fence. Not that it would have stopped mamma if she thought I was threatening
one of the twins.
