Hi Gang,

Just passing on a 'Public Service Announcement' for what sounds like a
pretty worthwhile effort in case anyone might find in interesting. [Yes -
some portion of the funding is coming from Compaq.]

TECH CORPS is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to helping schools
and teachers improve the use of technology in the classroom. The company,
through Corporate Community Relations, has funded the development of
techs4schools, a personalized online technical support program that provides
free assistance to all school technology coordinators across the country
regardless of where they are located!

In order for techs4schools to be successful, however, TECH CORPS needs
schools in the U.S. to sign onto the program. The organization also needs to
get people with technical backgrounds to sign up as volunteer mentors.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?

First, tell your local school about this free resource for technology
support and advice. Access
http://www.techcorps.org/Compaq/exployee-school-flyer.doc to find a
techs4schools flyer ready for you to print and take to your school's
principal or technology leader. Note: techs4schools is designed to support
the person making the technology decisions in the school, not the individual
teachers - please make sure that this flyer gets to that technical person!

Second, sign up to be an online mentor. Are you someone with technology
expertise in networks, hardware, software, or the Internet? Would you like
to provide online support to school technology coordinators? Access
http://www.techcorps.org/Compaq/employee-volunteer-flyer.doc for more
information on what's required and how you can become part of techs4schools.

techs4schools vastly increases the number of experts like you who can
volunteer to reach out and help fill the huge need for technical advice and
assistance in schools. Thank you in advance for your help!
