I just did the same, and the pop-up at weather.com has not come back.

I haven't messed with it lately, but the iCab browser will actually filter
out images based on server or *size*. So you can turn off banner ads within
any page, no matter the host. It sped me up considerably back when I was on
a 28.8 or whatever that was.
