I used to think that 'Give Peace a Chance' kept saying
'Born in a sailor' because that's how I remember it from
my (2yo?) hearing of it when it was 1st released.

When I was older, I had this song going round in my head,
and no context to it, so I had to make the words out of the
sounds I remembered. It wasn't until maybe 10 years later
that I consciously heard the original, when it all made sense.

(Actually, as I'm a wee bit deaf, I find myself doing this a lot
now, particularly in noisy pubs - reconstructing what people
have said from the fragments of sound I caught. It's one
reason why I take a while to answer sometimes, 'cos it's
a slow, conscious process)

Wasn't there an election game where the candidates had to
supply the words they heard when they listened to Louie Louie?
