I bet that it's a squirrel. Had it happen to me at the last place I lived.
If it is, she's likely building a nest so you should extricate it and close
off access before there are any babies to deal with.

Have you ever seen a squirrel loose inside a house? They go nuts running
around looking for a way out - literally bouncing off the walls, and
everything else. Be prepared.

Good luck, it can be tricky - whatever it turns out to be.
