+1 on Norton.  You may be able to tell it's running
when it does a disk scan, but not when scanning email
or other such task.  The issue with the disk scan is
the default scans all local files.

With configuration of which folders and file types to
automatically scan on a regular basis, it shouldn't be
a burden at all.
